Loesch to Lead New Discovery/Hasbro Channel, Network to Launch Fall 2010

A solid choice by Discovery/Hasbro in Margaret Loesch as new President/CEO of the joint channel venture between Discovery Communications and Hasbro. The former chief of Crown Media/Hallmark Channel and of Fox Kids Network will start on Aug. 17, based in Los Angeles. I have worked with Margaret on a couple projects through the years, and I must say she has incredible creative and marketing acumen- and a lot of respect from branding folks in our business.

The network will continue to operate as Discovery Kids until the debut of the to-be-named channel and new programming slate, planned for Fall 2010. Following the debut, Discovery Communications will retain the Discovery Kids brand for, among other things, its international networks and its licensing and merchandising business.

Although the channel launch has been slightly nudged to Fall 2010, I have a feeling that Margaret will have a solid hand in early stage development of the channel brand much to the delight of the board.
