NBC Universal’s Sci Fi channel is to be relaunched as Syfy in the UK on April 13, 2010 as part of the ongoing global rebrand effort. It continues Syfy’s strategy to broaden its appeal and follows the channel’s name change in the US. Syfy UK will also adopt the US tagline “Imagine Greater”.
“The rebrand allows us to build on the fantastic heritage of the channel and loyalty of our fans whilst further broadening the appeal of our existing range of great content,” said Laurence Dawkin-Jones, the UK managing director Universal Networks International.
NBC Universal is repositioning its pay-TV channels around five core brands: Syfy Universal, Studio Universal, Diva Universal, 13th Street Universal and Universal Channel. On a separate note, the Hallmark Channel will be rebranded as Studio Universal, across Africa, on March 24.
