Originally launched in May 2005, Fox Reality Channel has relaunched and rebranded as Nat Geo Wild. The new network is getting its US debut, but has been around for over 3 years in foreign markets around the world, including Hong Kong, England, and Australia. Nat Geo Wild takes aim at the successful niche Discovery Communications’ Animal Planet has built. The channel, which is a joint venture between Fox Cable Networks and National Geographic, launches in approximately 50 million US homes.
Nat Geographic Channel GM Steve Schiffman adds, “National Geographic has been the leader in wildlife programming. But while wildlife is at the core of our brand, NGC actually has had only a small percentage of natural-history programming among the diverse topics that we have covered. So we are dedicating a new network to our favorite genre with Nat Geo Wild.”
