HBO Teases Season 4 ‘Big Love’

HBO released last week its much anticipated :90 teaser/promo for the fourth season of fan favourite (myself included) ‘Big Love’. The Emmy-nominated drama returns in the US on January 10, 2010 on HBO.

The airy, minimalist spot features plural marrieds Jeanne Tripplehorn, Chloe Sevigny, and Ginnifer Goodwin with Bill Paxton reaching for — and losing his grip — on each of his three wives. The song (incidentally) is from Interpol and is called “Untitled”.

Discovery Channel’s “Deadliest Catch” Campaign Sets Sail

A few years ago, a very talented producer who had worked for me at Autonomy told me that she was off to story produce a new show on Discovery called “Deadliest Catch”. The only thing I remember hearing about the show at the time was that it was incredibly dramatic, realistic, and (to put it bluntly) deadly.  Fast forward to 2009, Discovery has itself a bonafide ratings megahit, 4 Primetime Emmy noms (and a win), and a passionate, loyal audience.

Imaginary Forces teamed up with Discovery to deliver a new :30 promo showcasing the high-seas, real life adventure aboard the sea vessels.

An ambitious multiplatform brand assignment was launched coinciding with the new season of the series. The campaign is designed to capture viewers “throughout the day no matter what platform they are using,” said Danielle Sabathier, director of digital media marketing for Discovery Networks.

One HD, Australia’s New 24/7 Sports Channel Launches

One HD is finally here. Australian Network TEN’s 24/7 digital sports channel launched a couple weeks ago with a nifty “countdown on a vault” thematic and a promo featuring some big name Aussie stars teasing the channel’s programming lineup. TEN is confident that the new channel will score with sports fans. General manager of Sport, David White, explains “We know our opening weekend will give viewers a sensational introduction to ONE, and mark the beginning of a lifetime’s habit of essential sports viewing.”

Here’s the :60 teaser/promo –

From a business perspective, it’s important to note that it is the country’s first commercial free to air network in almost 50 years, which would explain some of the considerable industry and public buzz generated by the brand. The countdown and launch sequence for colleagues in the US & UK who haven’t seen it yet –

New “Top Model” image campaign unfolds for The CW

The new on-air promo campaign launches for the 2009 season/cycle 12 of America’s Next Top Model. The image spot (:30/:20/:10) conceptualized by bi-coastal agency, Blind, was developed after the network had come with a photo shoot of the models already complete. The on-air campaign led by director/cd Tom Koh, was inspired by folding architecture, kaleidoscopes, and stop motion. The campaign was led client-side by CW VP On-Air, Mark Evans, and creative executives Chris Donovan, Rick Frey, and Jennifer Titus. Extra thanks to Blind President/ECD Chris Do.

Previous Sky Cross Channels

A quick look back at some Sky cross channels. (By request)

For my colleagues in the States who hadn’t seen the Sky spot, here you go.

Of course, in Sept 2008, Sky Three (along with sister channels One and Two) re-branded in the biggest on air change in Sky One’s 20 year history. The re-brand saw the logo change from the written “three” to being replaced in favor of the number “3” as well as a tweak to the Sky part of the logo. The fresh set of indents complementing the relaunch were developed by Sky Creative and our colleagues at The Moving Picture Company.

Who knew celebrity swearing could be so fun?

With Scrubs migrating from NBC to ABC this week, maybe we can finally repurpose that Channel 4 on-air promo people couldn’t stop talking about. Sadly- this could never run in the States. Here again are some of your favorites, including recently relocated Scrub stars Sarah Chalke, Judy Reyes, Ken Jenkins, and Zach Braff.

And in case you forgot, this advert contains very strong language and we wouldn’t recommend playing it with your speakers on loud.
